Curricular Updates

Reading: We have spent the last few weeks learning that Reading Is Thinking and we want students to start thinking about what they are reading.

Writing: This is an area of focus this year at GV and so we are warming up our brains with quick-writes and short essays. We will soon be learning about the writing process and will begin applying it to our writing. The process is: Prewrite; Write; Revise; Edit; Publish. I am excited to see some excellent writing from our students this year.

Language Arts: We are learning about the four types of sentences and their punctuation: Statements; Questions; Exclamations; Commands.  We will also be learning about sentence structures (subjects and predicates).

Math: This month, we are focusing on number-sense numbers from zero to 10,000. We are learning how to count by 10s, 100s, and 1000s. The terms we have been focusing on are Standard Form (234), Word Form, (two-hundred thirty four), Expanded Form (200+30+4=234), and Picture Form (Pictures). We are also using the terms digit and place value.
